Wizkid’s performance at the Fashion awards in London can be described as simply electric. The event was organized by Pandora and unites the global fashion community in London. Music, being a mirror and catalyst for societal transformation was at the center stage in London once again. As a global event, it was appropriate to feature musical performances that break cultural barriers.
Wizkid’s presentation of ‘Troubled Mind’ featured a fine blend of cultural exchanges. His masterpiece was an orchestration that blended western music with the polyrhythm of West African Afro Beat music. This performance particularly highlights the ability of music to communicate universally.
The beats from the talking drums created the perfect introduction for such a masterpiece from West Africa. Besides, who wouldn’t dance to the pounding beat from a talking drum? Obviously, it’s a call to dance, dance, and dance. Typically, the talking drum is a traditional and symbolic musical instrument that represents African music. The successful fusion of the talking drum into mainstream Afro beat music perhaps is a topic for another day. Indeed, it was a brilliant rendition that created the ambience and beauty for what was yet to come.
Wizkid certainly is a global music phenomenon. At the event in London, we couldn’t have expected anything less than finesse from a Grammy award recipient. Star boy’s unique vocal signature seamlessly blended into the set instrumental, giving some soothing feel with the vocal backups.
It was great to see and feel real strings from the orchestra, featuring some cool violinists. Similarly, the saxophonist, guitarists, drummers, keyboardists and other talented musicians did justice to the musical piece. Furthermore, this masterpiece by Wizkid buttresses the boundlessness of music. Lastly, it would be proper to applaud the organizers of the event for such a tasteful experience that will hopefully last a lifetime.
